About the Role
The Engineer in Training New Graduate Rotational Program is an entry level position within Roterra for a new graduate of civil engineering with little to no relevant work experience. The new graduate will have an opportunity to complete a rotation within the company in the roles of design engineering, estimating, project coordination and construction/site coordination over a period of 4-5 years while they gain an overall understanding of the company and operations. Upon successful completion of this rotation program, the new graduate will be able to successfully obtain their P.Eng. designation and will have an opportunity to specialize within the company in a department of their (and their managers) mutual acceptance. Depending on the candidate’s experience, they may be required to spend a few weeks or months in the field and/or manufacturing teams to gain some practical hands-on experience within the company.

Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engineering and Design Rotation:
Design of deep foundation and earth retention elements in conformance with appropriate codes and standards
Perform static and dynamic pile load testing to determine pile load capacity, dynamic pile stresses and structural integrity
Liaise with customers, consultants, project managers and consultants throughout the timeline of a project to identify and address design-based challenges in the field and ensure timely solutions are implemented
Assist in preparation of project proposals, bid packages, and client presentations
Provide direction to installation team regarding technical problems to assist with troubleshooting and resolution of site issues
Estimating Rotation:
Apply technical experience to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings
Perform material take-offs and systematically estimate costs involving fabrication, manufacturing and construction projects
Identify potential risks, opportunities, and alternative solutions
Participate in presentation of estimates and proposals to clients
Prepare estimates and schedules including coordinating sub-trade invitations and estimates, preparation of contract documents and schedules
Perform proposal follow up and negotiations with support of preconstruction manager
Compile, present and provide handover packages from estimating to project management
Track and record tender information regarding projects rewarded and rejected for continuous improvement and history tracking
Project Coordination Rotation:
Work closely with the project team and client to ensure successful project execution.
Create and execute project work plans, schedules, and milestones; revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
Anticipate future outcomes throughout the timeline of a project to mitigate risk, optimize performance and streamline project
Maintain paper and electronic project files as required for project administration
Monitor and track productivity on site against forecasted schedules for progress billing and cost management
Liaise with customers and consultants throughout the timeline of a project from initial project inquiry through to invoicing and follow up
Attend and participate in site-visits, pre-bid meetings and post-bid meetings as required
Interface with and provide on-going technical support to Project Management Team
Construction Coordination Rotation:
Support the field operations team to plan and coordinate manpower and equipment
Ensure pre-access requirements including pre-screening and training is completed for all staff
Actively review field documentation daily and redistribute to project management office accordingly
Coordinate delivery of equipment, materials and labor to project sites
Attend kick-off, progress and troubleshooting meetings on site
Supervise installation activities for durations of projects
Apply for permits, licenses, book accommodations and other administrative activities
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
