About the Role
The Geostructural Design Engineer is an integral part of our foundation solutions team. Along with the estimating and project management departments, the Design Engineer prepares engineered designs for quotations, proposals and execution of various deep foundation technologies. Our core services include helical screw piles, cast in place piles and caissons, continuous flight auger (CFA) piles, driven piles, and shoring solutions. The Design Engineer analyzes geotechnical and structural information along with real world limitations to design deep foundation elements for pile foundations and earth retention.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design Helical, Cast in Place Caissons, Belled End Bearing, and CFA deep foundations as well as shoring solutions
Assess geotechnical and structural requirements to determine optimum pile solution(s)
Serve as a foundation technical matter expert during design, proposal, and through construction phases
Collaborate and interact with both the internal estimating, project, and operations team as well as external consultants, general contractors, and owners through the entire lifecycle of a project
Work with E.I.T.s and project staff to complete shop drawings and signed and sealed construction drawings
Perform static and dynamic pile load testing and analysis to determine pile load capacity, dynamic pile stresses and structural integrity
Address design-based challenges in the field, as they occur, and assist with troubleshooting and resolution to ensure timely solutions are implemented
For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to diversify their daily duties with the inclusion of various ancillary duties, not limited to, but including: estimating, proposal creation and presentation, business development and project management functions
Domestic and/or international travel may be required depending on work and project demands
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering degree
Professional Engineer Registered in Canada and/or the USA (P.Eng. or P.E.) with preference for ability to be registered in both countries. Provinces (BC, AB, SK, MB, ON) and States (TX, ND, CA, LA, WY, CO, NM)
5+ years of design, estimating and/or project management within geotechnical and/or structural engineering
Practical deep foundation experience
Intermediate to advanced computer literacy; Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, L-Pile, GROUP, STAAD-Pro, and other specialized foundation software
A Master’s degree in geotechnical or structural engineering is considered an asset
