About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Technician trouble shoots, performs repairs, modifies, and maintains our extensive fleet of pickups, trailers, heavy haul trucks and equipment. The Heavy Equipment Technician works as part of a team with our fleet department to ensure vehicles and equipment are ready to move to project sites when scheduled.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete timely annual commercial vehicle inspections to ensure legislative compliance

  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and adjust or replace defective parts, components, or systems

  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the completed work meets manufacturers specifications and legislated requirements

  • Complete timely preventative maintenance as required

  • Record required service reports for all completed repairs and maintenance

  • Complete rig-up modifications of new vehicles and trailers

  • Ensure all work is completed according to safe work practices and procedures

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations

  • Ability to test repaired equipment to ensure work meets specifications

  • Other duties as required


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of practical mechanical experience working as a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician

  • Knowledge of industry processes, procedures, and policies

  • Knowledge of piling equipment repair an asset


EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Journeyman Truck and Transport Certification or Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification (Red Seal preferred)

  • Class 5 License and clean Driver’s Abstract

  • CVIP license considered an asset

  • Ability to complete pre-employment testing, including but not limited to a medical questionnaire, drug and alcohol testing, and a 50 lbs. back assessment


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Fast paced, high volume facility

  • Temperatures contingent upon weather

  • Shop environment typical of a mechanic bay

  • Moderate to high noise level
