About the Role
As a team member of the mechanic’s shop, the mechanic’s helper assists the heavy duty mechanics by picking up parts, performing general housekeeping and assisting in the completion of maintenance and repairs. Coordinates with the fleet maintenance team for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently and effectively. Assists others as required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Requirements
DUTIES:
Daily
Complete general cleaning of shop facilities including but not limited to inventory sorting, tool organization and daily housekeeping
Perform general cleaning and organizing of the yard and/or shop facilities
Empty all garbage containers and place them in separated locations
Clean and inspect company vehicles and equipment upon return from field operations
Complete preventative maintenance tasks such as oil and filter changes
Assist the heavy duty mechanics with general repairs and maintenance
Comply with all health and safety regulations
Other duties as required
Maintenance
Repair air lines and extension cords
Check oil level in floor jacks and port-a-power pump
Change light bulbs
Replace furnace filter weekly
Change Parts washer solvent when needed
Clean out sump with mini excavator and scoop attachment
Seasonal
Cut grass with ride on mower and use weed trimmer around fence etc.
Shovel all walkways and entrances
Ensure there is salt and shovel at each doorway (winter)
Ensure shovels and salt are stored away (summer)
Set up extension cords on fence line for vehicle and equipment plug in
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Prior general labourer experience considered an asset
Prior experience operating equipment considered an asset
Mechanical aptitude an asset
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma
Class 5 license and clean driver's abstract
Overhead Crane Certification, preferred
SKILLS:
Ability to accurately measure, count and sort materials
Ability to work with small hand tools
Ability to multi-task and move between tasks as required
Ability to work alone and/or as a member of a team
Ability to follow direction
Ability to satisfactorily complete a SureHire medical questionnaire and 50 lbs. back assessment
Physical strength, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Eager to learn and advance knowledge in the mechanic trade
Punctual and reliable
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Fast paced high volume facility
Temperatures contingent upon weather
Shop environment typical of mechanic bay
